While officers of the Buildings Department are responsible for enforcing the law, they must also show understanding towards residents facing demolition and the distress of possibly losing their homes. Yeung Chung-yin, Senior Building Surveyor of the department, not only discharges his enforcement duties with professionalism, but also demonstrates empathy towards the people affected.

The Heritage Museum is presenting "Meet Mona Lisa & Portraying the Renaissance" exhibition, blending cutting-edge tech with priceless historical treasures. Using immersive panoramic projections, Da Vinci’s masterpiece becomes a giant moving image wrapping the whole gallery, with six stories unraveling the legend behind it. Infrared and other scan techs reveal Da Vinci’s use of the famous sfumato technique—and even hidden unfinished sketches beneath the surface. It also features treasures borrowed from top French and Italian institutions. Four original Da Vinci manuscripts are on display in Hong Kong for the very first time. The exhihition runs until 27 July. Admission is free.

In recent years, the proliferation of emerging drugs has posed a serious threat to society, with young people particularly vulnerable to their harmful effects. As a frontline anti-narcotics officer, Wong Chi-ming, Chief Customs Officer of the Integrity Management Group of Hong Kong Customs, is committed to combating drug trafficking at source. Drawing on his professional knowledge and experience, he leads his team in preventing drugs from entering the community. Wong has also served as an instructor at the Hong Kong Customs College, where he has trained many customs officers who now help safeguard Hong Kong.

The Museum of Art is presenting the exhibition “Blooming: The Art of Gardens in East and West”, with treasures from the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Palace of Versailles in France, and the HKMoA itself. Over a hundred stunning paintings and artifacts will walk you through garden design, tours, and appreciation – from Emperor Qianlong’s lavish Qing Dynasty gardens to King Louis XIV’s Versailles. There're also two original Monet masterpieces — Water Lily Pond and Water Lilies — on loan from Chicago. The exhibition runs until 29 July.

The Tuen Mun River runs through the entire Tuen Mun new town, connecting different areas of the district. Although the river channel changed with the new town development, the warmth in the community along the riverbanks remains unchanged. The dragon boat race is an annual major event in the Tuen Mun River and Castle Peak Bay area. Not only is it a local tradition, but it also brings people together, as the then “new immigrants” moving into the public housing estates in Tuen Mun formed a dragon boat team to join the grand event. Over the decades, team members from the elder generation have passed the torch to the younger generation, sustaining the power of unity. The Tuen Mun River not only unites people in sports, but also inspires diverse artistic ideas. Writer MAK Shu-kin has been living by the Tuen Mun River for nearly 20 years. He has written themed works on the River, and felt the subtle influence of “water” on his creations. Kay is an indigenous inhabitant of Tuen Mun. After participating in a public art project on the Tuen Mun riverside, she had an opportunity to rediscover the Tuen Mun River and reflect on her relationship with the River.

The Works

Now in her 90s, ink painter Hung Hsien is considered a pioneering figure in global modernism. Born on the Mainland, she studied traditional Chinese painting in Taiwan before moving to the US. In the mid-1960s, she developed a modern ink painting language, merging the technical mastery of Chinese tradition with the expressive energy of Western abstraction. She taught in Hong Kong in the 1980s before eventually settling in Texas in the US. Currently on show at Asia Society Hong Kong Centre is a retrospective exhibition, “Between Worlds”, showcasing Hung’s remarkable artistic journey. In the studio: Czech Pianist Jan Čmejla . Last year at just 21, Jan Čmejla became the first Czech pianist to win the Leipzig Bach Competition. Already a prize-winner of several international competitions, he has had the opportunity to perform with acclaimed orchestras including the Brno Philharmonic and the Prague Symphony Orchestra. This three-episode series introduces the economic, financial and legal developments in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and examines the opportunities arising from them. In the final episode of the series, Hong Kong Trade Development Council Chairman Dr Frederick Ma and Secretary for Education Dr Choi Yuk-lin will be interviewed to explore the exchanges and interaction between Hong Kong and Central Asia in the areas of trade, commerce, talent and education, and to highlight the increasingly close co-operation between Hong Kong and Belt and Road countries.

Oscar and Buu Cam's smiles intertwine to create beautiful laughter in the Disney. In this place, they find not just a job, but also a space for growth, gradually building their dream lives. Oscar (who has autism) wakes up early at around 4 a.m. to ensure he arrives at the park on time for work, spending more than two hours commuting. What he looks forward to most is finishing his cleaning duties well and then taking photos with his favorite cartoon characters at the end of the day as a reward. On days when he doesn't work at the park, he attends a social welfare organization to participate in vocational training courses, learning various skills needed for work. Buu Cam (who is hearing impaired), works as a tailor at the park, starting with button sewing and zipper work. She diligently notes down each step in her notebook. After more than two years of effort, she recently participated in making costumes for cartoon character performances, and seeing her work during the parade has been a tremendous motivation for her. The park not only collaborates with social welfare organizations to develop relevant vocational training programs but also hires individuals with physical and mental disabilities each year, arranging partners to assist them in entering the workforce. With the right vocational training, people with disabilities can find their dream jobs in the workplace.
