Hong Kong's wetlands are primarily located near the Inner Deep Bay, with Mai Po designated as a Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. Each year, over 100,000 waterbirds migrate to these wetlands to rest and refuel, including several globally endangered species. Earlier this year, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) launched public engagement activities for the proposed Sam Po Shue Wetland Conservation Park. However, environmental groups have raised concerns over recurring damage to protected wetlands in recent years, including illegal dumping and landfilling, which threaten bird habitats. Over the years, the government has used various approaches to conserve wetlands. How can these experiences help in building a comprehensive wetland conservation park system in the future?

The title of this year’s Design Trust Futures Festival is “The Art of Transformation”. The three-month programme at Murray House features works by more than 60 designers, artists, architects, and focuses on sustainability, culture, and heritage in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area. Among those participating artists is sound artist Chaklam Ng. On show at The Attic of the Hong Kong Museum of Art, “Dreamchasers: Stories of Hong Kong Art” presents works by four Hong Kong artists who embody both local tradition and innovation, and whose art is now an integral part of the museum’s collection. The four artists include Tong King-sum), Ha Bik-chuen, Rosanna Li and Gaylord Chan. The French composer, Claude Debussy is known for his orchestral colouring, innovative harmonies, unusual tonal structures and expressive melodies. This Thursday at “Quarryside”, a harbourfront community space in Quarry Bay run by St. James’ Settlement, the Romer String Quartet is performing a concert that includes Debussy’s only string quartet, as well as new interpretations of one of his most loved works: “Clair de Lune”.

Hong Kong Heritage Museum is presenting the exhibition, “Comic Fun for All: The Magic of Hong Kong Comedy Comics”. From the perspective of comic artists, exhibits related to humorous Hong Kong comics from different eras are displayed, including manuscripts, comic books, theme products, art installations, and even multimedia projects.

This Highlight Show will showcase the most exciting moments from the very first European Running Championships, which included top runners around the globe joined by 28,000 non-elite runners across the programme. This episode features the performances of 10km and half marathon events, which set off from Leuven and crossed the city and wider surrounding.

Award: Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence (Science Education Key Learning Area) School: Buddhist Wong Wan Tin College Awardees: Wong Ka-kui Wong Ka-Kui is a Chemistry teacher at the Buddhist Wong Wan Tin College for 14 years. His philosophy as a teacher is "walking alongside students." He introduces various learning experiences to students, helping them think out of the box and explore the infinite possibilities of science. In his class, Mr Wong often asks students questions, with the goal of encouraging them to "speak up", increasing their engagement. During lab sessions, Mr. Wong likes to mix students of different abilities in a group to foster interaction and mutual assistance, ensuring that every student can keep up with the progress. Each of Mr. Wong's students has a "Chemistry Bible." Students will tell us how they customize their personal bibles, and Mr. Wong shares how he creates "virtual classroom videos." Students participated in the Odyssey of the Mind that combines scientific creation with performance. It turns out that science can be a lot of fun. The program also interviews two of Mr. Wong's former students, who share how chemistry has changed their lives. They will also reminisce about the past and tell stories – a teacher personally delivered exam papers to students by car during the pandemic, and he also took mock exams with the students, answered students’ chemistry questions late into the night …. What drives this teacher to persistently "walk alongside" his students?

In addition to the Yungang Grottoes, Datong City has many other attractions, such as Shanhu Temple and Southeast Village. Shanhu Temple is one of the first national key cultural relic protection units. Inside, there is a Liao dynasty wooden structure and three Jin dynasty wooden buildings. The two hosts, accompanied by the newly met architectural scholar Mr. Ma, take an in-depth tour of Shanhu Temple. Southeast Village, on the other hand, is a unique cultural and artistic space transformed from an ancient architectural complex. It hosts many artists, along with a coffee shop and various local specialty boutiques, creating an intersection of historical and modern time, making it a significant contemporary cultural and artistic space. After exploring Shanxi and seeing numerous ancient architectural sites, the hosts' interest in Chinese ancient architecture and culture has grown even stronger. They decide to take another stylish journey together and travel to Japan, first going to Nara to visit Tang dynasty architecture, specifically Todai-ji Temple. They will then seek out various local cultural experiences, such as a tea ceremony workshop and an ink-making workshop, both of which have an inseparable connection to Chinese culture.

Hong Kong is one of the cities with the highest living costs in the world. Research shows that low-income families spend about 30% of their monthly income on food expenses. When faced with sudden financial hardship and unable to afford daily meals, people can seek help through food assistance programs. Since 2009, the Social Welfare Department has been funding NGOs to provide short-term food assistance service, offering food to individuals or families struggling with daily food expenses. Additionally, food banks run by social welfare organizations help support the grassroots in times of need. How do these programs function? Are they sufficient in assisting those at the grassroots level?

Pilots must master the art of mountain aviation and glacier drop-off. Before joining this group of elite pilots, Melissa will have to pass a series of high-flying tests.

Hong Kong startups have been venturing into the Middle East in recent years, tapping into the emerging market with creativity and green technology. Vriko Yu is one of the founders of Archireef. By developing 3D printing technology to create a reef tray suitable for coral growth, it not only saves dying corals, but also pioneers the local marine conservation market. SleekFlow's Henson Tsai, on the other hand, has developed a one-stop instant messaging platform that combines various messaging applications such as SMS and live chat into a single, easy-to-use platform that enables a complete customer journey for more effective marketing, sales and customer service dialogue. Both of them have successfully penetrated the Middle East market and seized the first opportunity.

On Tuesday's Backchat, we took a deep dive into ocean conservation. Local authorities recently released over 83,000 juvenile fish into Hong Kong waters, as part of a string of events to enrich marine resources. The initiative tied in with the annual National Fish Releasing Day on June 6. We spoke to marine experts to find out how we can better support a resilient and robust marine ecosystem. After the break, we examined the latest student mental health situation, after Secretary for Education Christine Choi called for a "whole-school approach" to tackle the issue. "March of the volunteers", the national anthem of China, is related to the bravery of Chinese young people resisting Japan's aggression of China. It was originally the theme song of the movie "Sons and Daughters in a Time of Storm" which depicts the heroic stories of young Chinese marching to the front line to defend their country against Japanese aggression. Hong Kong is part of China. The National Anthem Ordinance came into force in June 2020.
