Establishment of an independent committee for Tai Po blaze / Iron rust found in lunar soil samples / Airbus A320 sowftware glitch / Will Wikipedia go extinct because of AI?

On Thursday's Backchat, we followed-up on the tragic blaze in Tai Po. Chief Executive John Lee earlier announced the establishment of an independent committee, led by a judge, to look into the cause of the Wang Fuk Court fire that has claimed at least 159 lives so far. We spoke to a lawmaker and former security minister on the role of this committee, and how it can help with the investigation.

We'll then turn our attention to space after Chinese scientists identified “iron rust” in lunar soil samples brought back by the Chang’e-6 mission last year. Experts say this may change the traditional understanding of the moon’s surface chemistry and offer new clues to better explain lunar magnetic anomalies.

After the break, we talked to an aviation expert after Airbus says it will inspect hundreds of A320 planes due to a "supplier quality issue" with metal panels.

To wrap it all up, a tech expert explained the challenges that Wikipedia faces in the rapid rise of artificial intelligence.

"Space oil" drug / Opening of billiard halls to the youth

    Presenters:Tony Sabine and Rainbow Leung

On Tuesday's Backchat, we're talking about the emergence of space oil drug. Etomidate – the primary substance used in space oil -- is currently classified as a Part 1 poison and is mainly used for induction of anesthesia.

But in recent months, an increasing number of young people have got hold of the hallucinating substance, prompting authorities to take action.
Starting February 14, etomidate is expected to be listed as a dangerous drug. Those illegally possessing or consuming space oil containing the sedative would face a maximum of seven years in prison and a fine of HK$1 million while traffickers could face life imprisonment and a fine of up to HK$5 million.
In the second part of the show after 9:30, we look into authorities’ plan to lower the age limit at licensed billiard halls to eight, as part of a drive to promote Hong Kong’s role as a sports and gaming hub.
