On this programme, we looked at the conflict in the Middle East, after US President Donald Trump sent confusing signals hinting that the Iran war could end soon. At the same time, Mr Trump is saying that the US could hit the country “twenty times harder”.

After the break, a curator from the Hong Kong Science Museum told us more about the three new permanent galleries in the museum that focus on how modern technology, such as AI, robotics, and biotechnology, shapes daily life and future innovations.

Hutchison port deal / Hong Kong's first ethnic minority museum

    Presenters:Janice Wong and Danny Gittings

On Thursday’s Backchat, we're diving into the controversy surrounding CK Hutchison’s decision to sell its Panama and other global port operations to US investment conglomerate BlackRock.

Shares of the Li Ka-shing-controlled firm have slumped after two Beijing offices overseeing Hong Kong affairs shared newspaper commentaries criticising the move.
Chief Executive John Lee also said the deal needed “serious attention,” and the government opposes “bullying tactics” in international trade. This comes as US President Donald Trump pledged to give the US more control over the waterway, which it built over 100 years ago.
Will these developments have financial implications for shipping firms? And was the offer simply too good to refuse?
After 9:50, we learn about an exhibition promoting the contributions of ethnic minorities to Hong Kong, ahead of World Anti-Discrimination Day on Friday.

    9:05am-9:50am: Hutchison port deal

9:05am-9:50am: Tim Huxley, Chairman of Mandarin Shipping

9:05am-9:50am: Alan Lung, political analyst Co-Chair (International), The Path of Democracy

9:05am-9:50am: Steve Vickers, CEO of Steve Vickers & Associates, a specialist political and corporate risk consultancy

9:50am-10:00am: Hong Kong's first ethnic minority museum

9:50am-10:00am: Chandni Puri, Project Manager and Supervisor, Diversity Hub by Christian Action
