Taxi e-payment rules / OpenAI's Pentagon deal / Gen Z emotional distress survey / Combatting rising obesity

On this programme, we started things off with a closer look at an upcoming regulation that made the availability of electronic payments mandatory for all taxis. From April 1st, all taxi drivers in Hong Kong will be required to offer at least one QR-code-based and one non-QR-code electronic payment method.
We then heard from our tech correspondent about OpenAI’s controversial deal with the Pentagon to use its models for US defense systems. The US military had blacklisted OpenAI’s rival Anthropic, deeming it a “security risk”. The move came after Anthropic refused to cross ethical boundaries, including using AI tools for the purpose of fully autonomous weapons without human oversight.
After the break, we chatted with a representative from the Mental Health Association about a recent survey by the organisation which found that over 40 percent of Gen Z in the city had been affected by emotional distress.
And lastly, we heard from a senior health official about a new government initiative that aimed to combat rising obesity rates in Hong Kong.

Maritime fuel bunkering / MPF enhancement proposals / Football frenzy

    Presenters:Azam Khan and John Bruce

On Thursday's Backchat, we learned about what the SAR is doing to enhance its status as a green maritime hub. Just recently, Hong Kong successfully completed its largest single liquefied natural gas, or LNG bunkering operation and marked a significant milestone with the first-ever ship-to-ship LNG refuelling alongside simultaneous cargo handling.
After the break, we switched gears and spoke to a representative from a major accounting firm to find out how we can improve the MPF system to boost retirement protection for people in Hong Kong.
And finally, we turned to football. More than 40,000 fans packed Kai Tak Stadium on Tuesday night to see Hong Kong, China clinch a 1-nil victory over India in a historic first home game at the new venue. We spoke to a lawmaker about the incredible atmosphere, and whether the SAR can further capitalise on this football craze.
