In Mexico there is an ancestral and devastating pastoral tradition… the burn. The peasants set fire to their fields to clean them in order to sow the next crops, often these fires escalate and spread to the wooded hills. Between 20 to 30,000 hectares of natural areas go up in smoke every year in Chiapas!
