The Chief Executive, Mr John Lee, will lead a delegation on a visit to Central Asian countries, with Uzbekistan as the second stop. Located in the heart of Central Asia and bordering all other Central Asian countries, Uzbekistan was an important hub along the ancient Silk Road.

With a population of more than 38 million, the largest among the Central Asian countries, abundant natural resources such as gold and cotton, and the Government’s continued pursuit of reforms, Uzbekistan is well placed to become a production base for overseas enterprises. Uzbekistan also hopes to join the World Trade Organization by the end of 2026. At present, Uzbekistan is Hong Kong’s third-largest trading partner in Central Asia. The Chief Executive’s visit is set to open a new chapter in relations between Hong Kong and Uzbekistan.

This programme will elaborate from different perspectives on the advantages of the HKSAR Government in supporting the country’s development blueprint for the Belt and Road Initiative.
