The work of the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department goes beyond mechanical maintenance, covering such areas as regulatory control and the handling of public complaints. Ng Wai-leung, Chief Technical Officer of the department, has served for more than 40 years, rising from the artisan grade to the inspectorate grade. He has not only adapted to changes in the nature of his work, but has also received commendation for his outstanding handling of public complaints. Ng also takes time to mentor younger colleagues in enhancing their communication skills, to the benefit of all.

How voracious can athletes’ appetite be? How should the Registered Dietitian of Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) design the diet plans so that athletes can have enough to eat? In this episode, “Big Brother” CHEUNG Siu-lun, the former Hong Kong fencing team representative; and Susan CHUNG, the former dietitian of HKSI, are invited to taste the delicious food together and reminisce about the anecdotes between them in those years. The food ingredient featured in this episode, i.e. oyster, is well-known as “the milk in the sea”, and has the highest zinc content among all food. The Lam Tsuen River originates from Tai Mo Shan with its watercourse stretching over 10 kilometres. It flows through Chai Kek, Tong Min Tsuen and the town centre of Tai Po, before it finally reaches Tolo Habour. It is a river weaving through both forested and urban areas, nurturing unique cultural landscapes. Chai Kek at the upstream is one of the few places in Hong Kong that retains the original landscape of natural rivers and streams. Ecologist Dr Ken SO leads urban dwellers into the riverbed to feel in person the temperature of the flowing water and its breath of life, and explore the biodiversity therein. She Shan Tsuen at the midstream is a Hakka village with a history of over 200 years. The trees in the Fung Shui wood on the hillside behind the village were planted by the ancestors of the village representative CHAN San-kwai. The trees not just block the wind and stabilise the land, but also have their own uses. One huge old camphor tree in the wood, which is even older than the village itself, has become the collective memory of villagers. Wallace is a ceramic artist deeply inspired by the Lam Tsuen River. He uses clay to record textures of the nature. He wanders into the Fung Shui wood and transforms the trees and clay into artworks carrying memories. The river continues its journey through the urban areas of Tai Po and reaches Tolo Harbour. The Coral Academy of the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department are now working together in remediation for the harbour to restore the beauty of this underwater garden where coral once flourished. Life needs to be nurtured, and so does the river. The Lam Tsuen River is not just a waterway, it is also a story intertwining human and the nature.

In a rapidly aging society like Hong Kong, late-life romance and marriage may bring positive impacts if handled appropriately. Could such relationships enhance seniors’ mental well-being? What role can the government and voluntary organizations play in supporting elders who wish to remarry? What benefits might it bring to their emotional health?

Now in her 90s, ink painter Hung Hsien is considered a pioneering figure in global modernism. Born on the Mainland, she studied traditional Chinese painting in Taiwan before moving to the US. In the mid-1960s, she developed a modern ink painting language, merging the technical mastery of Chinese tradition with the expressive energy of Western abstraction. She taught in Hong Kong in the 1980s before eventually settling in Texas in the US. Currently on show at Asia Society Hong Kong Centre is a retrospective exhibition, “Between Worlds”, showcasing Hung’s remarkable artistic journey. In the studio: Czech Pianist Jan Čmejla . Last year at just 21, Jan Čmejla became the first Czech pianist to win the Leipzig Bach Competition. Already a prize-winner of several international competitions, he has had the opportunity to perform with acclaimed orchestras including the Brno Philharmonic and the Prague Symphony Orchestra. This three-episode series introduces the economic, financial and legal developments in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, and examines the opportunities arising from them. In the final episode of the series, Hong Kong Trade Development Council Chairman Dr Frederick Ma and Secretary for Education Dr Choi Yuk-lin will be interviewed to explore the exchanges and interaction between Hong Kong and Central Asia in the areas of trade, commerce, talent and education, and to highlight the increasingly close co-operation between Hong Kong and Belt and Road countries.

Oscar and Buu Cam's smiles intertwine to create beautiful laughter in the Disney. In this place, they find not just a job, but also a space for growth, gradually building their dream lives. Oscar (who has autism) wakes up early at around 4 a.m. to ensure he arrives at the park on time for work, spending more than two hours commuting. What he looks forward to most is finishing his cleaning duties well and then taking photos with his favorite cartoon characters at the end of the day as a reward. On days when he doesn't work at the park, he attends a social welfare organization to participate in vocational training courses, learning various skills needed for work. Buu Cam (who is hearing impaired), works as a tailor at the park, starting with button sewing and zipper work. She diligently notes down each step in her notebook. After more than two years of effort, she recently participated in making costumes for cartoon character performances, and seeing her work during the parade has been a tremendous motivation for her. The park not only collaborates with social welfare organizations to develop relevant vocational training programs but also hires individuals with physical and mental disabilities each year, arranging partners to assist them in entering the workforce. With the right vocational training, people with disabilities can find their dream jobs in the workplace.
