A few months ago, we featured the Picasso exhibition at M+ and talked to the curators about the works on show and the thinking behind the exhibition.
We also featured Sin Wai Kin, a Canadian-based Asian artist whose work was included in the exhibition. Today, we introduce you to another artist with an Asian background who took part: Lee Ming-wai. His work was literally written in sand.
Currently at gdm Hong Kong you can see “Kongkee: Future Jataka”, the artist’s debut exhibition at the gallery. It’s a new selection of Kongkee’s works that includes LED animations, lightbox, neon installation and mixed-media paintings. Inspired by the “Jātaka Tales” from the Indian subcontinent ,a collection of stories about the previous incarnations of the Buddha in both human and animal form, Kongkee imagines a future in which spiritual figures may be reincarnated via artificial intelligence or through technological advancement.
Like many musicians, vocalist and bassist Cyan Chan began studying classical music at a young age. Since completing her classical training at MI College of Contemporary Music in Los Angeles, she’s focused on jazz. Cyan’s appeared on The Works before, and we’re happy to have her, and some of her fellow musicians, with us again.
