互聯網、電話、人工智能、機械人……科技的初衷是簡化我們的生活。但科技發展一日千里，太快太新或會教我們喘不過氣來，新技術的質素和功能也非常驚人。上幾輩的人一生中可能只見證過一場科技革命，現在我們則很大機會經歷十次以上。

Technology
Internet, telephone, artificial intelligence, robots... Technology’s primary purpose is to simplify our lives. But we can become overwhelmed by the speed of progress and modernity that is constantly evolving. New technologies astonish us with the quality and speed of their functions.

The probability is high that each of us will see more than ten technological revolutions in our lifetime, compared with previous generations who barely saw one in their entire life.

自古以來，人類一直仰望天際，太陽系和當中的星體一次又一次叫我們著迷。我們對地球以外未知領域的探索，終於發展成實實在在的可能性；而另一邊廂，關於地球本身的謎團我們也從未停止追尋答案。科學家經年累月地研究和發現，嘗試探索、拆解和明白大自然的奧秘。在這個探索過程中，又不斷衍生新一批疑問，這些研究為人類帶來的益處可謂碩果纍纍。

Nature

人類一直想盡辦法減少體力勞動和重覆性工序，在科技未出現之前，通常都是靠剝削其他同伴來達到目的。找機械人幫手似乎是個可行方法，幾百年來，機械人技術令不少人深深著迷，就連希臘神話中的赫菲斯托斯也製造了機械工人幫忙鑄鐵。不過，人工智能技術的發展要到最近才漸見成熟，有望改變人類的未來。

AI
Mankind has always looked for ways to reduce manual labor and repetitive tasks. To that end, and in the absence of technology, civilization exploited various me- thods, often by taking advantage of their fellow humans.

Robots, as a potential solution, have long fascinated mankind, capturing our imagination for centuries. Even in Greek mythology, the god Hephaestus had « mechanical » servants. But not until recently, has artificial intelligence finally progressed to a level that will become more and more life-changing for the future of humanity.

地球有46億年歷史，如果要將人類放進畫面裡，把數字改成46年會較容易理解：智人四小時前抵達歐洲，工業革命則在這分鐘才開始。在這段時間裡，我們已經破壞了地球超過一半的樹林，並危及到四分之一的動植物種。情況史無前例般糟糕，我們對生態系統和生物多樣性的破壞程度之高，不僅對環境構成威脅，甚至威脅到人類自身的存活。為避免地球走向悲慘未來，人類必須坐言起行，保護大自然。

Green Tech
Planet Earth is 4.6 billion years old. To put humanity into perspective, if we reduce this figure to 46, we can say that Homo sapiens arrived in Europe 4 hours ago, and our industrial revolution began just this minute. In this time frame, we have destroyed more than 50% of earth’s forests, while putting at risk 25% of animal and plant species.

These observations are unprecedented. The destruction of our ecosystems and our biodiversity has reached levels that threaten not only the environment, but the survival of our species. To avoid a tragic future on Earth, man must act now to protect nature. 

從自然療法到今日手術室使用的頂尖科技，醫學可謂是為人類生命帶來最多改變的一門科學；無數條人命得到拯救或受惠於醫療步驟，可是要做的功夫還多著。世界各地的研究人員和科學家，一方面不斷研發新療法，另一方面亦開創更先進的技術，務求治好病患。從中國到巴西、以色列到坦桑尼亞，今年全球科研都有重要發現。

Medicine

最早期的航海家遠征歐洲，在茫茫大海尋找新大陸；今天的天文物理學家和太空人也一樣，積極在宇宙裡搜尋新的行星和生命跡象。如果說有一個地方最能引起每個人的幻想，那一定是火星；談到太陽系內有否其他生物存在，科學界對這顆引人入勝的紅色行星就特別感興趣，因為這裡似乎機會最大。
