Nathusius' Pipistrelle Bat
Among the great family of European bats, Nathusius' pipistrelle is one the rare species capable of undertaking significant migrations. This journey of up to 2,000 kilometers begins in Northern Europe towards the end of summer and finishes at wintering sites in the west and south of the Old Continent.
During the long haul, Nathusius' pipistrelle completes a fascinating biological cycle, while contributing to maintaining the balance of the ecosystems that it crosses. This bat even hold the record for longest migratory route among all terrestrial European mammals.

While some migrate to Spain and Western Africa, others reach the Eastern Mediterranean and East Africa. Yet, a third strategy is currently emerging: Certain blackcaps migrate north in winter! And they seem more numerous each year. -
