The “Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan for the National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035” (the 14th Five-Year Plan) was formally approved by the National People’s Congress on March 11, 2021. Chapter 61 of the document expresses support for developing Hong Kong into a regional intellectual property trading centre, reflecting the value the Central Government places on the protection and commercialisation of intellectual property in Hong Kong.

Developing Hong Kong into a regional intellectual property trading centre has been a major policy initiative of the Hong Kong SAR Government in recent years. Hong Kong has a sound legal system, as well as an abundance of professional talents and resources, enabling it to offer competitive services where intellectual property transactions are concerned. How can intellectual property stakeholders, including entrepreneurs, inventors, innovation and technology personnel, designers, and creative industry professionals, make the most of this opportunity and open up new possibilities?

This co-production with the Intellectual Property Department consists of 12 five-minute episodes, with each centred on a domestic or overseas enterprise that has already registered a patent or trademark and uses Hong Kong as its R&D and marketing base, as well as creative industries with vast copyright resources. The programme will provide insight into how these companies make use of Hong Kong’s unique resources and advantages, or its professional intellectual property services, to develop business opportunities in the Greater Bay Area and internationally.
