The guests have been selected from a range of performing arts genres from music to dance, to visual arts, film and theatre - joining us to arouse an interest in their art form. They will tell their personal stories about how they got to where they are today, and they will share their secrets to success - always inspiring so that we can aspire.
My very first guest is the Dean of the School of Music at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Sharon Choa.
Sharon Choa is a conductor, musicologist and educator. She studied as a violinist under the great quartet leader Sidney Griller at the Royal Academy of Music in London and she turned to conducting while studying for her second degree and Ph.D. at King’s College London. She had been coached and much influenced by many eminent conductors – of special note are Maestro Jiri Belohlavek (former chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic) and Sir Colin Davis. Her premiere of Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde in Chinese at the 2004 BBC Proms ‘East meets West’ series established her as a conductor of remarkable musical abilities and intensity.
While in the UK, Sharon was nominated an ‘inspirational woman of the world’
with her portrait appearing in the National Gallery.
